Hen Party
So over the past couple of days, a few of my lady friends have been asking me what date my hen party is taking place so myself and my bridesmaid, Andrea took it upon ourselves to begin the process.
First we contacted all the ladies in the bridal party with a choice of dates. Once the date was decided we went looking for a hotel and we came across a great deal. One night bed and breakfast, dinner, cocktails and a spa treatment for €115. Perfect!
Of course going to a hotel for spa treatments, drinks and dancing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea so Andrea suggested that we have a ladies night in my mothers house the night before. This way anyone who can’t make it Saturday or who can’t afford to go can still take part in the weekend. So I contacted my mam and she agreeded to host a party Friday night for everyone. Some drinks and finger food and lots of fun. Perfect!
So we’re all organised, easy peeze!!

As I was writing about my wedding invitations I remembered that Bla is not only an invitation queen, she is also a handbag and accessories queen.
Every bag and purse you see on her site is handmade by her. Believe me when I say they are fabulous and would be the perfect treat for a hard working bridesmaid!!

Wedding invitations
I spent a little time yesterday morning in Dataprint looking at wedding invitation samples and colours. They have some lovely stuff, theres so much to choose from.

Bla showed me some new samples that she put together along with some fantastic coloured envelopes. Its all very exciting!!!

I did however agree to John designing the wedding invitations. It’s not that I don’t trust johns deisgn skills or taste, what I’m concerned about is the length of time Its going to take John to make a decision and then print them…. Not to mention the stress he’s going to put himself under if he decides to screen print them! Bridezilla might be paying him a visit!
Mother of the Bride Shopping Disaster!
So today I took my Mam off shopping for her mother of the bride outfit. Of course she wanted to go to Athboy to shop (its over one and a half hours from home). So I agreeded to devote my day off work to driving my mother half way across the country to find an outfit.
We left home about nine thirty and arrived and arrived about 11 am. The shop was filled with beautiful clothes and outfits and as we were walking in I became confident that she would find something out of this world! Believe me I was very wrong!!!!
Mum tryed on every suit, dress…. Outfit in the store and nothing was to her taste. The problem is that mum saw a suit that she loved a few months ago and is now comparing everything else to it! ( the suit wasn’t in her size )
So we left athboy disappointed and went onto Dublin city centre where we did all the usual and again found nothing. I think my mother may gave to wait for the spring collections to come in?

OK Ladies, I was just flicking through my wedding magazines and I came across a lovely website called glitzysecrets. Its the cutest website with some fabulous jewelry and hair accessories. And best of all, they are fairly priced and deliver to Ireland within a week. Nice one……..
I will definitely be buying from this site over the next few months.
Life update!
Apologies to all my devoted readers for not blogging more often. John and I have had a very busy few weeks business wise.
Over the past few weeks we have launched the AthyDirectory.com and events@pixelcode which have gotten off to a great start.
Athy Directory is a free directory for all businesses and organisations in Athy, Co. Kildare. Its our way (Pixelcode) of giving back to the local community. The only problem with it is trying to get it through to people that it is in fact free and no there isn’t any hidden costs that we’re not telling you about. Eventually people give up and sign up. I suppose these days it difficult for people to comprehend someone doing something for the community and not for themselves! We launched the directory at the last Athy Chamber meeting and have gotten a great response since.
Last night was the launch of our first event with Pixelcode called Bringing your business online. We didn’t have as many people attending as we had hoped for but it was a great learning experience for both John and I and we looking forward to putting on the full day course in November. If anyone would like information on this, please give me a shout.
On top of all these exciting things I decided to get myself a little part time job with a little photo studio. I work three days a week and I am enjoying every moment so far. I’m especially excited about learning the ins and outs of photography and doing my first shoot! I’ll keep you updated on that one, it could be a while yet…….
Cupcake Wedding Cakes
So you like the look of a cupcake wedding cake but your Aunt has already offered to make you a wedding cake as a gift! So what happens when you really, really, really want to have cupcakes because they’re just so so so cute!! Well I have options that you can do without hurting anyones feelings!!
So you have the usual fruit and chocolate biscuit wedding cake being made by your Aunt which you love and your parents and inlaws will love even more… big tradition in ireland is for parents of the bride and groom to take home the left over cake and give a piece to everyone they know! I’m sure its a good way to brag about the recent family wedding!!!! So why not add cupcakes to the wedding cake menu. Why not surround the wedding cake with cupcakes. This way you don’t have the messy job of cutting up a piece of cake for everyone on the wedding day, they can enjoy a cupcake instead and you can take home your cake for the day after to enjoy over stories of the day.
So you can either hire a local bakery to bake and decorate the cakes for you or why not try your hand at making them yourself! As it so happens I have a recipe and I tryed it out yesterday. Yum Yum, I didn’t decorate the cakes but they are yummy anyway. They are soft and sweet and very quick to put together and bake.
Ok so I only made a small batch to see what they were like. You will need 4oz of margerine or butter (at room temp.) 2 eggs (at room temp.) 4oz of self raising flour and 4oz of caster sugar.
Pre heat the oven to 180°c and put some paper cupcake holders into your cupcake tin.
Beat the sugar and butter until creamy and add in the eggs gradually. Once they are all beating up use a wooden spoon to stir in the flour and put a spoonful of the mixture into each cupcake holder and bake for 15 to 20 mins until golden brown and firm.
Cool on a wire tray and decorate with buttercream or icing….. yum yum
If you want to cook more just double the ingredients.
Wedding Colours
Finally the wedding colours are decided on and 4 out of 5 bridesmaids are measured up and ready to go!
There was no drama involved in picking out the dresses. There was a few complaints behind the dress room curtains that I pretended not to hear but apart for that it was all plain sailing. We picked a dress and colour that suits everyone.
The dresses perfectly compliment my dress and I am confident that everyone will look fantastic on the day. A big thanks to the ladies in Ruben Bridal. As ever a great experience.
Finally I can get on with my life! Ha Ha
My mother is very happy as she can now get on with shopping for her outfit and not have to worry about clashing with the wedding party!!!!!!
Bridesmaid Dress Shopping
So we’re off tomorrow to the dress shop to finally decided on a few dresses and colours. I’d say if we get it down to three dresses and maybe one or two colours I’ll be happy.
My maid of honor isn’t coming tomorrow but I’ll bring her along in a few weeks time to make the finial decision. Its difficult for her to be available when she has a new baby.
So what I’m hoping for? Maybe a fish tail shape in a bright red or pink or maybe a black dress with a bright colour! I really don’t know what I want.
