Post Wedding Blues

Ok so the wedding is over and the fun and games have come to a halt, life is back to normal. What do you do now? I have been asking myself those exact questions for about a week now as I’ve had plenty of time on my hands as I am between jobs and have been sick for the last three weeks with chest infections, colds and now a kidney infection. Some might say I hit the wall after the wedding!

So what is one to do….. get a job…. spend the summer living off my new husband…. who knows?

Ok so I have been looking for a job to keep me from losing my mind but in the mean time working on my blog and planning parties for the weekends sounds good to me.

Honeymoon

As you can imagine the volcano erupting ruined any chances of us leaving the country and enjoying an overseas honeymoon. Instead we went on a little road trip to Killarney, Co. Kerry for 3 nights. Hopefully we’ll get to take a nice long honeymoon sometime in the near future.

Some of the views from around Kerry. This is near a beach we spent an afternoon walking on.

We left our mark!

We stopped of in Dingle along the way to sample the local fish! Yum

Fresh scampi with home made chips and pea puree.

Back to normal!

Sorry for the lack of posts over the past while, as you can imagine it has been a very busy time. But don’t worry stories of the wedding and the build up are to follow. First some pictures of the big day.

All the boys waiting for the ladies to arrive. Very handsome.

The bridal party all together in Lisnavagh House. Purple looked fabulous on everyone.

Posts will resume as normal from now on! Phew……

Hen Party Weekend

Five weeks to the wedding and my lovely bridesmaids organised a hen party. Everything kicked off Friday night in my Mums house with some food and drinks, then we headed off to Kilkenny city for some drinks, food and spa treatments.

The whole weekend went really well. Friday night was great fun with games and his and her quizzes!

Thats Andrea with a black bag full of fun gifts for me to wear on the night. Thanks Andrea!!

Saturday at 12pm we all jumped on the train to Kilkenny and spent the night in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel which was fabulous. Its a lovely, relaxing hotel and a great place for a group of hens.

After dinner in the Ormonde, Andrea recited a poem she wrote for the occasion.

Ode to joyce!

The time has come to celebrate

That Joyce and John have set a date
to get wed and tie the knot
But first, Joyce’s journey must not be forgot.

From the day u were born u knew your own mind,

with those rosy red cheeks u were one of a kind.

Your brave and outgoing and will give anything a try,

from a new groovy hairstyle to baking a pie.

We rocked ando’s and the emi over the years,

With hormones and heartbreaks it wasn’t without tears.

Now we are older its boozy nights in,

with mortgages and rent bills this isn’t a sin.

You’re a fantastic cook and terrific host,
Sometimes, you are more “direct” than most.
But we know you’ve got our best interest at heart,
when you tell us to stop being a damn crazy tart!

You met John on a mini bus.

For him it was love at first sight
and u couldn’t give a……care!
Then your love grew like a flower,

and it never grew sour.
Now is the time to remind u
what a special person u are,

you bind us all together,

though we are near and far.
You need to know how proud we are
and that we love being your friend
how wonderful it is that u found a husband
before u drove us round the bend!

Thank you to everyone who helped make it an amazing and rememberable weekend.

Wedding Countdown

The countdown is officially on. 6 weeks to go and the invitations have been sent out. They were sent out in yesterdays post and I have already received thank you s from a lot of people. Its very exciting to have so many people excited about the wedding.

Our invitations were designed and printed by Data Print, Athy. (John’s family business) They match perfectly with the bridesmaid’s dresses and the venue. I love them.

Shopping for wedding rings

After spending months looking for the perfect ring for my married finger I finally found it. Unfortunately I have expensive taste, I know, I know, big shock. So I had  to look for an alternative.

I went from jeweler to jeweler in search of a worthy alternative but all were way over priced. It seems that jewelry in this country along with everything else is still priced like we’re in the boom time and not in a recession. With recession in mind I turned to the internet for inspiration and of course found it.

I, like many people, buy almost everything online, from my christmas presents to half a dozen of egg. So you would wonder why I didn’t immediately think of going online to buy my wedding ring…… I did some google searches and found a few different shops selling jewelry in the UK. I checked them out and found that one in particular a friend of mine had used and was very happy with. I went onto the site and found the exact ring I wanted for quarter  of the price I would have paid had I purchased in a jewelers on the street.

I would definitely recommend buying jewelry online, just check out the source and away you go. I purchased on the diamond factory website.

Could someone please tell me how people are expected to support local businesses and their local community when you can’t trust them to charge you a fair price for the good and services you need. Whether I am buying a diamond ring or a pack of pens, I will be sure to shop around.

Dress fitting update!

just a quick update on how things went with seeing my dress for the first time since I ordered it last July.
As you can guess I was a bit nervous to see my dress but I have to say I’m more than happy! u have been walking alot lately to tone up and it has been working, so when I tryed on my dress it was a little big but nothing to worry about. Once I was strapped and pinned in I was delighted with my choice. The dress suits my shape so well and makes my waist look tiny compared to the usual blob! A few alterations have to be done but nothing major and I’m sure that the girls in Ruben bridal are more than capable!
As for the bridesmaids, their dresses are gorgeous, I just love the colour and the shape. All I have to do is try round them up to have their fittings!

Dress Fitting

Ten weeks to the wedding and thing are starting to hot up!

I’m heading off in about ten minutes to go to my dress fitting. I’m very excited and nervous at the same time. Deciding on a dress and them having to wait nine months for it to come in is kinda crazy. What if you were having a bad day and picked something that’s totally not you. What if your body shape has changed, what if you just don’t like it any more……

Wish me luck!

Wedding invitations

Most people will tell you that your wedding invitations are very important. First impressions are everything and your invitations should set the standard for your whole wedding. Your invitation design will be influenced by your dress, the bridesmaids and of course your venue. It will also be incorporated into your mass booklet, seating cards, thank you cards etc.

With all this in mind you can understand the problem in trying to get my fiance, who is a designer, to make up his mind as to what he wants. (This is the one job he has)

So here are the final few….

Decisions, decisions……

Wedding flowers…..

Personally I like very bright, colourful bouquet and church flowers. Something with some pink, purple and maybe a splash of sunflower in the middle.

But I was told today that both sunflowers and lilies distroy your clothes with pollen. So that puts an end to that.

But I do so like them…….

Roses it is…. how boring….

I’m open to suggestions…. please email any pictures to joyce@soap.ie
